Event Management is a very broad term with various meanings in different parts of the country. We should begin by roughly defining the responsibilities associated with various job titles.
Race Chair or Executive Director: Has overall responsibility for race or event. In charge of overseeing top-level managers, some of who are listed below.
Race Director: Responsible for "nuts and bolts" of the race. Sometimes defined as the area covered from the starting line on through to the finish line. Can include pre-race registration and packet pickup, but may not. Usually does not include start/finish "venue" responsibilities.
Race Logistics Managers: Report to Race Director above. Examples are Aid Station coordinators, Course Monitors, Course coning/barricades, Start/Finish Line setup, Course entertainment, etc.
Apple has and will serve as a Race Consultant to your event. With over 15 years in the Event business, we have learned a great deal about the right way and (perhaps more importantly) wrong way to approach challenges.
A key lesson learned years ago is that, usually a Race Director from your own local area is the best choice. They have a specialized knowledge of local traditions, officials, permits, and relationships that outside parties do not. While we are glad to provide another set of eyes and offer suggestions as a Consultant, the local hands-on management is best left to a native of the area.
When we are providing Chip Timing and/or Data Management to your event, we include this service as a no-charge "value-added" component.
